6 Sustainability Trailblazers Making the World a Better Place

Words By Maddy Cox5 mins

Before we switch for Earth Hour we’re shining a light on these sustainability trailblazers that are making strides towards a healthier and happier planet.

Linktree Earth Hour

To begin to tackle climate change, governments and corporations around the world need to make the switch to renewable energy. That’s why on March 27, Earth Hour is asking all of us to commit to an hour of no power. By switching off the lights from 8.30pm local time that day, you can send a message to your leaders.

Joining the Earth Hour movement is one way you can throw your support behind the fight for climate preservation — but as individuals, we also need to do our bit to live sustainably.

Sustainable living means finding ways to shop, cook and dress without contributing to the consumption of non-renewable resources. It’s all about the little lifestyle tweaks that can help us lower our impact on this earth.

If you’re not sure where to start, the good news is that there are lots of bright minds leading the way. From the chefs showing us delicious plant-based meals to the Instagrammers educating us on ethical fashion, there’s a lot of voices doing incredible work in sustainability right now.

To get to know some of them, here’s 6 of the movers and shakers who are helping the world build a greener future. Because at Linktree, we believe in leaving the internet — and the earth — a better place than we found it.

Banish Linktree

Banish

Waste-free, cruelty-free, plastic-free. That’s the motto of Banish, the brainchild of Australian activist Lottie Dalziel.

Banish is a platform devoted to sharing the tips and tools that can help us all reduce waste. On Lottie’s Instagram, that can mean everything from videos about how to compost to sustainable back-to-school ideas. In the Banish online store, you can also pick up the Waste Less Workbook, a guide to making your home sustainable, as well as a range of other eco-friendly products.

Banish even run their own recycling program — send them your hard-to-recycle items like old mascara tubes and they’ll make sure they stay out of landfill. How good.

Linktree Good Human

GoodHuman

Want to start living sustainably but don’t know where to start? There’s an app for that.

GoodHuman is a curated source of all the things that make being a good human easier. They vet brands and products through a sustainability lens, curate trustworthy content and help you connect with likeminded others — all on the one app. Living ethically has never been more convenient.

The Good Trade Linktree

The Good Trade

Every day, The Good Trade sends out a dose of ideas around sustainability and slow living in their email newsletter.

Their content aims to inspire and educate – sign up and you’ll learn about initiatives like community fridges, where you can “grab what you need, leave what you don’t and build community through mutual aid”.

You’ll also get to see a bunch of eco-friendly tutorials. Sometimes, it’s how to DIY things like making your own candles. Others, it’s offering up handy ‘sustainability swaps’ — like what to do with overripe bananas instead of chucking them.

noissue

If you run an ecommerce business, it’s time to get acquainted with noissue.

noissue gives makers, brands and businesses of all sizes access to custom, sustainable packaging. To help you get your goods to customers the eco-friendly way, noissue allows brands to design their own branded tissue paper, and have it shipped to you anywhere in the world within 3 weeks.

They put their money where their mouth is by offering low minimum order quantities, so you’re not stuck ordering more than you need. Say goodbye to plastic packaging forever.

Plant Based Chef - Linktree

The Whole Food Plant Based Cooking Show

A plant-based diet isn’t just good for your body; it’s also great for the planet. That’s because eating less meat is one of the biggest ways we can all help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Jill Dalton of the The Whole Food Plant Based Cooking Show knows this well. That’s why she creates handy tutorial videos that make it easy to cook your own oh-so-tasty vegan meals. From lemon polenta cake to creamy cauliflower casserole and vegan “meatballs”, Jill has hundreds of dishes for you to choose from.

Ethical, sustainable and delicious — what more could you ask for?

Fashion Revolution Linktree

Fashion Revolution

The bad news: Fashion is the world’s second largest industrial polluter, after aviation. The good news: There are voices holding the world’s biggest fashion brands accountable.

Fashion Revolution is a global movement dedicated to fighting back against fast fashion. To promote transparency and push for change in the fashion industry, they created the Fashion Transparency Index. It reviews 250 of the world’s largest fashion brands and retailers and ranks them according to their social and environmental policies, practices and impacts.

The Fashion Index is updated annually. But on Fashion Revolution’s Instagram, you can get daily inspiration around the need to reduce, reuse and recycle our clothes.
